Today is the last day of the old year and it is traditionally a time to reflect back on all the things you have accomplished and learned, revisit the highlights and also the pitfalls you’ve experienced, take a look ahead at what it is you want to create going forward, set your intentions and chart your course.
As I sit in a little coffee shop writing to you from the beautiful Mexican Caribbean I am reflecting on my own journey. A year ago it was right here that I made a decision to start my own business.
With the guidance of a mentor who kept me in check and held me accountable every step of the way, I started building a solid foundation in terms of setting up my business structures, got clear on my offers and established my online presence. One of the most important things we worked on together was starting me off to get my mindset in check.
Now, I am by no means saying that I have mastered it, it is a continuous journey, but I realize that the veil has started to lift to shine a light on my old belief systems that no longer serve me. And once you are becoming aware there is no turning back. It’s like riding a bike, once you know how to do it, you don’t forget even if you want to.
It’s been an interesting and rewarding year with many learnings and some inevitable blunders. That is why I would like to take some time today and share with you a few things that I am truly grateful for before getting back into the swing of all things marketing and business building in January.
-
Having the privilege to work with some amazing clients who allowed me be part of their journey.
-
Realizing I quite enjoy writing and some of my posts getting published.
-
Learning so much more about internet marketing.
-
Running my first ever webinar and actually having an audience.
-
Being introduced to a new mentor and investing into continuous personal development.
I am also grateful for the blunders, one of them losing out on over 500 leads (ouch!) by not thinking through the purpose of my Facebook Ad campaign. I have since become obsessed with getting it right and that has never happened again. I am sharing this with you to show you that we all start from right where we are at and no woman goes it alone.
So how can you chart your course in 2016? The first step is to map out your goals for the year and think through what it is you would like to create for yourself this year in life and in business.
Make sure the goals you are setting for yourself are S.M.A.R.T.
Specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and timely.
Here is what I mean by that:
SPECIFIC– Set a clear goal, don’t be vague.
MEASURABLE– If your goal is to buy a car, you either have it or you don’t by the due date you set.
ACHIEVABLE – Given your resources and the action steps you are going to take to reach your goal.
REALISTIC– Don’t overreach, goals are meant to stretch you but you still want to be grounded in reality. If your are just starting your business you are likely not going to make a million in the first quarter.
TIMELY- Set a deadline. A goal without a deadline is merely a wish.
Then break each one of your goal down into action steps that you can implement weekly, daily and monthly. I recently created a little cheat sheet that makes setting effective goals easy and also show you how to create a rock solid action plan to achieve them. Take a look right here.
Don’t get overwhelmed by setting too many goals. Prioritize and focus on your biggest ones first and start tackling them. Leave a note in the comments section to share your goals.
Here is to your success in 2016!
Happy New Year!
