The Anatomy of Creating a Recurring Revenue Stream – A Mini Case Study

Sometimes we get so busy in the day-to-day of running our business that we completely overlook the golden opportunity that is in front of us. It happens to all of us and for all kinds of reasons. These blind spots once illuminated and properly harnessed can easily become a lucrative recurring revenue stream, often with little effort…

Let’s break it down in this mini case study where a casual conversation about “Hey what’s going on in your business?” led to creating a lucrative, recurring income stream.

STEP 1: SPOTTING THE OPPORTUNITY

When somebody tells me that something is massively working in their business because they cracked the code on outsmarting the algorithm and have 10X’d their audience in a short amount of time, my ears perk up and…

My mind immediately goes to what an amazing service this would be for other entrepreneurs who are looking to get their content in front of more people. So I suggested packaging it up and selling it as a digital product.

STEP 2: OVERCOMING OBJECTIONS

Well, that’s not really what my business is about…

Concerns about diluting brand identity, and getting into unfamiliar territory are just ways our subconscious mind uses very convincingly, if I might add, to keep us from seeing an opportunity for what it truly is: a great service that will benefit others and with the right strategy behind it, can become a recurring revenue stream.

STEP 3: BRAINSTORMING THE STRATEGY

Who is the audience for this?

How do you package it?

What’s the pricing strategy?

How can you create demand and urgency?

What’s the most fun and simple way to deliver it?

Answered those 5 questions IN. ONE. HOUR. and it was off to the races (pun intended).

FINAL STEP: THE RESULT

The product immediately generated thousands of dollars and subsequently was set up as an evergreen product that continues to bring in revenue to this day. Not my words but the words of the business owner who grabbed the opportunity by the horns and ran with it.

I am delighted to have received this endorsement from my former mentor and now dear friend whom I greatly admire. (This is unedited, literally pasted from email…)

“For anyone considering Simona’s 30-Day Breakthrough Intensive or VIP days, and wondering if quick results are truly achievable, I want to share my experience. Not too long ago she picked up on a lucrative opportunity from just a casual conversation where I shared about my day. Immediately she zeroed in upon an opportunity I had completely overlooked.

Despite my initial resistance, Simona didn’t just suggest a course of action; she engaged me in a thought-provoking dialogue and powerful questions, that helped me see the potential she saw. Encouraged by her perspective, we brainstormed a strategy together, which thanks to her “tough love”, I implemented immediately.

And much to my surprise and delight it immediately generated thousands of dollars in just an hour’s work and subsequently was able to be set up as an evergreen product that continues to bring in revenue to this day.

Her ability to cut through the fluff to pinpoint actionable opportunities and coach you to completion is unparalleled. I highly recommend her to anyone looking for significant, rapid results.”

Sales Is a Spiritual Practice https://www.simonaksoll.com/sales-is-a-spiritual-practice/ Thu, 18 Apr 2024 23:23:07 +0000 https://www.simonaksoll.com/?p=4981

I’d like you to hear me out as I build the case…
Especially if you are a highly successful woman in corporate, VP level and up looking to start your own business and the fear of having to sell your product or service is what’s been holding you back because you don’t want to be perceived as pushy or salesy. This is for you.

Yesterday, I got a call from a former colleague, who after an unexpected layoff is seriously considering starting her own business combining two of her greatest passions into an amazing service. Yet, the thought of having to sell her service feels very uncomfortable, precisely because she doesn’t want to come off as salesy.

The minute you start your business, sales is the majority of the work you are going to be doing because without them you won’t be in business long. So you might as well embrace it and let me take it even further — fall in love with sales.

There is a perception that many of us have where sales equals the pushy, sleazy car salesman who takes all your money and sells you a lemon. This is the byproduct of the narratives we were brought up with, especially coming from the middle class. They shaped how we view sales and what we believe to be true about it.

Nobody likes that car salesman. Everybody talks about what a bad person he is and we don’t want to be associated with that at all, because we want to be liked, valued, loved, and accepted. So we make everything that has to do with sales as bad as that guy.
Now if you’ve grown up in an entrepreneurial family you most likely have a different view of sales: Sales is SERVICE.

Think about it: We have designated service providers that we buy from regularly when we need their service and we pay for it, no questions asked.
As a business owner, you provide a valuable service or product that helps others solve a problem or a need and you trade it for money. That is all a sale is – a SERVICE transaction.

Well that sounds all logical and good in theory, Simona but how does it work

in practical application?

It’s all about integrating this mindset “Sales is Service” where you so deeply believe it that it resonates on a cellular level and becomes a normal way of being for you where you feel really good about it. Like a fish in water. I mean it.

This starts with believing in your unique value proposition that your product or service is truly helping others better their lives. My client Michelle has a game-changing service that does that.

It makes other people’s jobs and lives easier and gives them back time in their day. What’s not to love? She wholeheartedly stands behind it and can talk about the benefits and results her clients receive from engaging with her service from a place of complete authenticity. That is a clean energy that is felt in her sales presentations where the service almost sells itself if there is a need for it.

But what do you mean by integrating it on a cellular level?

It’s one thing to consciously tell yourself “Sales is Service” as an affirmation but that does not wire it into your central nervous system where it becomes part of who you you are, your identity. For that, you must reprogram the image you have of yourself to one of a successful salesperson.
This starts with unearthing everything that you believe to be true about sales, good or bad and literally re-writing the software of your subconscious mind with a new belief statement that is then wired into your central nervous system.

I do this through a process based in neuroscience. It’s fast and it works. Now, here is the really cool part about this process. The minute you have locked it into your central nervous system, you are going to see it working in your life, as you take action.

How is sales a spiritual practice?

You have a desire to start your own business, combining your skills and talents to create a product or service that solves a problem or meets a need. In that sense, you are enriching others’ lives.

In the case of my client Michelle, her service gives people time back in their day and makes their jobs easier. They can get more done in a shorter amount of time and get to go home on time to be with their families. It’s a win for them, their families, their organization, and their customers. And it’s also a win for Michelle, her company, her employees, and their families.

A gift that keeps on giving and positively touches many lives made possible through a service transaction – commonly known as a sale.

Now if we notch it up and look at it from a metaphysical level, the desire to start your own business where did it come from?

It was placed into your heart by your Source who also equipped you with all the special unique talents and the resources you need to bring it to fulfillment. That Divine Source is part of you and it seeks expression with and through you in the physical world to benefit you and others you touch by providing your service. And who are we to say no to that?

Can you see how sales is a spiritual practice, something that you do for someone and not to someone?

Seeking a more purposeful career path? https://www.simonaksoll.com/seeking-a-more-purposeful-career-path/ Fri, 15 Mar 2024 19:00:47 +0000 https://www.simonaksoll.com/?p=4942

Have you been quietly considering a shift towards a new venture, one that truly resonates with your values, provides the impact you aim to have, and the legacy you want to build? When we feel that inner pull toward a more meaningful, mission-driven direction, societal expectations, family obligations, and the status quo that we have sacrificed so much to achieve can become a hindrance to moving forward.

Opportunities to shift gears often come knocking softly at first. When we don’t heed the call, those knocks get louder. Still not listening, the Universe slams on the brakes.

In my case, I had successfully immigrated to the United States from Austria and worked my way up the ladder in the Entertainment Industry. Working hard and being determined paid off. I had a prestigious position in the international marketing division of a major Hollywood Movie Studio collaborating with influential people on global go-to-market strategies for major blockbuster feature films and hit television shows.

I was cruising through life, living the American Dream until my divorce brought everything to a screeching halt. After seven months of living in the Twilight Zone, propped up by tranquilizers to be able to function at work, my therapist on speed dial, and countless meltdowns behind my closed office doors, I finally emerged with a wide-open slate in front of me. Where to now? That was my catalyst for radical change.

There are gentler ways to do this. If you know that it is time to embark on a new venture, let these 5 considerations aid you in making your decision.

  1. OWN YOUR MISSION

Take ownership of your mission. Look at it as a mandate that is yours to bring to fruition. Trust that the resources will be provided. Then identify what are the perceived roadblocks in your mind and how you’d have to shift your thinking and your belief system to get around them. In other words, what do you have to change on the inside to become the person who is pulling this off?

2. FOCUS ON SOLUTIONS & POSSIBILITIES

Cultivate a solution-focused mindset. Think in terms of possibilities and embrace ideas that are outside of the box. You are about to embark on a path that you haven’t walked before, therefore the conventional approaches that have served you well up until now are unlikely to get you to the next level. Price Pritchett wrote a great book about this called You² which I highly recommend.

3. PREPARE YOURSELF TO WELCOME FAILURES

Embrace setbacks as learning opportunities. Each stumble is a chance to refine your approach and come back stronger. In marketing, we take a test-and-learn stance and have a post-mortem after each campaign to see what worked and what didn’t work to improve the next iteration. If you can learn how to take your emotions out of the equation, failures provide a wealth of data that you can use to become masterful at your craft. They say Thomas Edison took 10,000 attempts at inventing the light bulb… Aren’t we glad, he never gave up?

4. BE PRESENT

Stay grounded in the present moment and keep your eyes focused only on the next step. This generates forward momentum and keeps you from taking yourself out of the game because you think about what if…20 steps down the line, something might not work out. (Hint: It hasn’t happened yet. Should the situation arise, you’d deal with it then.)

5. ACCEPT WHAT IS & GET SUPPORT

Be grateful for where you are and everything that has brought you to this moment. All the experiences and skills you have accumulated until now are the foundation upon which you are building your next chapter.

Nobody goes it alone especially when your mission is big. Assemble a close-knit support network that keeps you on track and holds you accountable. Peer groups, masterminds, coaches, or mentors who get you and what you are looking to accomplish. Those are the folks that stand behind you and your vision. They are your trusted advisors with whom you can share your ideas, your fears, doubts, and worries. They are committed to helping you see things through and will be there on those days when you can’t see the forest for the trees holding up the flashlight that illuminates your path.

Navigating change can feel daunting at first, especially when there’s uncertainty about the path ahead. But with the right support and planning, the journey becomes much smoother, and you’ll find yourself making progress in no time.

And…

Taking a few calculated risks outweighs the regret of not having tried. There are people out there that you are meant to be helping with your new venture. And the rewards and fulfillment that come with that are priceless.

Why pursuing your passion trumps the 9 to 5 https://www.simonaksoll.com/why-pursuing-your-passion-trumps-the-9-to-5/ Thu, 17 Aug 2023 17:44:00 +0000 https://www.simonaksoll.com/?p=4936

10 years ago, my dream was to move to Mexico. Actually, it was more than a dream, it was a calling. If you have been following me for a while you know about my “Rooftop Moment”, that changed the direction of my life when a voice told me that I had to move here.

There was only one problem with this. How was I going to make a living?

At the time the concept of remote work did not exist. That’s when a mentor of mine encouraged me to start a consulting business where I could bring my marketing and coaching skills together, helping others while being location independent.

I was working towards this vision while I was still in my corporate role at Sony Pictures. That meant I would dedicate my early mornings, late evenings, most weekends, and yes, often my lunch hours to working on my business.

It’s been almost 7 years now since my vision has become my reality because I put in the work, and I got the help I needed to guide me on this journey.

I’m not telling you it’s going to be easy but there’s nothing more fulfilling than when you follow your true passion. The rewards are priceless.

Yes, I work 5 days a week sometimes 6.

Yes, I continue to invest in my business and in my own personal development to the tune of over 6 figures at this point.

Yes, there are days when it feels like there’s so much to do and not enough hours in the day to get it all done. (Somehow it always gets done.)

But when I get to do what I came here to do and see these amazing women that I have the privilege to guide on their journey step into their power pursue their vision, bravely clear obstacles out of their way, and succeed, I know that it’s all worth it.

It makes me want to show up better than I showed up the day before and excited to get out of bed every single day, no matter what’s on my to-do list (and trust me there’s stuff on there that I don’t like to do…)

Embarking on the path to transform dreams into reality demands dedication, resilience, and determination. Every step you take, and every hour you invest, bridges the gap between aspiration and achievement.

As you navigate the challenges and celebrate the victories, remember that the journey itself shapes you, refines your character, and builds a foundation for lasting success.

I wanted to share this with you today, to encourage you to go for what it is you really want because it’s all there for you, and you’re worth it.

Listen to that inner voice and do what it tells you to do.

It’s guiding you on your path.

Trust it.

This is your life and it’s up to you to live it fully, being true to yourself, accepting your God-given gifts, and sharing them with those whom you are meant to help.

Your dream is within your reach.

What action are you taking today to bring it to life?

Overcoming Fear: Embrace Your Next Chapter https://www.simonaksoll.com/overcoming-fear-embrace-your-next-chapter/ Wed, 26 Jul 2023 02:07:19 +0000 https://www.simonaksoll.com/?p=4931

As I sit here reminiscing about that pivotal moment in my life almost seven years ago, I can’t help but share this valuable lesson with all of you who might be contemplating a leap into a new chapter. Trust me, if what’s holding you back is that you are waiting for the fear to go away, you’ll be waiting forever.

I still remember the day I made the decision to resign from my corporate job. It was October 10th, 2016, precisely at 3 pm (yes, I remember it like it was yesterday). I walked into a meeting, and my boss immediately noticed something was up just by looking at my face.

He simply said, “OMG, you’re leaving.”

With a mix of anxiety and excitement, I managed to say “YES.” Then the fear hit me like a ton of bricks, and I had a visceral reaction to either vomit or faint (not a pretty sight, I must admit). My heart was pounding, my head was spinning and foggy. I had a full-blown anxiety attack when I heard his next words…

“I’m so happy for you!”

And in that instant, everything went quiet. I felt a calmness settle within me. We sat down and had a conversation. What followed was far from the monster of the impending financial suicide that I had imagined in my mind.

In fact, I continued to work for the company remotely for five more months (this was in 2016, a time when nobody was allowed to work remotely from home), while retaining my full-time employee status, receiving all my benefits and salary, living in my apartment in Mexico, the place that my heart and soul have always called home. This setup allowed me to build my client base and start paving the way for my new journey.

You see, on the other side of fear lies freedom, but we’ll never know it until we take that courageous step forward. It’s all part of our growth.

If you find yourself at a crossroads right now, I’d love to offer you a helpful and free tool. I’ve created a resource that outlines the exact steps I took to reinvent myself and embark on a new chapter: starting my own business and moving to a new country.

It is possible. If I can do it, you can do it, too.

If something is calling you persistently then it’s time to embrace the unknown.

It is my hope that this resource will support you on your journey.

Build your legacy by embracing your passions… https://www.simonaksoll.com/build-your-legacy-by-embracing-your-passions/ Fri, 21 Jul 2023 03:44:58 +0000 https://www.simonaksoll.com/?p=4904

As professional women in the corporate world, many of us have experienced that lingering desire to explore our entrepreneurial passions. Perhaps you’ve been contemplating a passion project for some time now but haven’t taken any tangible steps toward making it a reality. Let me assure you, this inclination is not a mere coincidence: it’s a sign of something much more significant.

In the midst of a rapidly changing world, we witness old systems crumbling, and conventional approaches losing their efficacy. This is precisely why that inner voice guides us toward a different path. Our passion projects hold the potential to contribute meaningfully to society, in ways that align with our core values and deepest aspirations.

However, embracing an entrepreneurial journey can be daunting, especially when it represents a complete departure from a well-established corporate career. Stepping into uncharted territory requires courage, resilience, and the willingness to be visible in new and unfamiliar ways.

Yet, it’s crucial to understand that the urge to pursue your passion project is not arbitrary: it’s an authentic calling from within. If this idea holds a special place in your heart, it’s because you are meant to take the next step and make a tangible impact, not only for your personal growth but for the greater good of all the people that it will touch.

Trust your intuition and acknowledge that your dreams have the potential to resonate on a much larger scale. Believe in yourself and your abilities to make a meaningful contribution that extends far beyond the confines of your immediate environment.

Our passion projects hold the power to inspire positive change, leaving a lasting mark on the world and those around us.

Somewhere out there somebody is looking forward to reading the book that you are called to write so they can be inspired.

Right now, somebody is waiting to hear what you have to say to give them hope.

And there are people who need that product or service you are creating to make their life better.

However, acknowledging the magnitude of the journey ahead doesn’t mean you must walk it alone. Building a supportive team around you is crucial as you embrace this new path. Seek mentors, advisors, and like-minded individuals who can offer guidance, motivation, and a fresh perspective. Together, we can amplify our collective impact.

If you find yourself looking for support or guidance in navigating your journey, I am here to assist you. No endeavor of significance is achieved in isolation, and I would be honored to be part of your support system as you embark on this exciting venture.

The biggest regret – and this might surprise you… https://www.simonaksoll.com/the-biggest-regret-and-this-might-surprise-you/ Wed, 21 Jun 2023 03:55:07 +0000 https://www.simonaksoll.com/?p=4909

It’s not pursuing your passion project and seeing somebody else take your idea, run with it and reap the success that was meant for you.

It happened to a friend of mine. Let me share her story. It might resonate with you. For years she talked about her fashion project creating stylish jackets out of vintage kimonos.

She went to fashion school, bought a ton of kimonos and… NEVER did anything about it until a few years later, chic and stylish kimono jackets started appearing at Bloomingdales.

Somebody else got the same idea, they took action and turned it into a lucrative business venture.

Of course, my friend was devastated and has never again tried her hand at a fashion project, even though she is amazingly gifted. After this experience, she simply gave up on her dream.

There is a specific reason why this happens:

In our Universe, all potentials already exist and we become aware of a potential that is intended for us by way of a thought, an idea that sparks in our mind. We receive a download, so to speak, as in “Hey, here’s an idea for you…”

When we get emotionally involved in that thought, it becomes a passion, an obsession and that’s what motivates us to take action.

When we take action, we move the idea from the thought state into a physical state. Just like the iPhone was once an idea in Steve Jobs’ mind until he decided to take action on it. He hired a team of competent experts and had it developed.

Now what happens when we don’t take action?

That thought then goes back out into the Universe, the Quantum Field where all potentials exist until somebody else picks it up and, like Steve decides to take action on it.

So you just might be sitting on a million-dollar idea with your vision. The question is,

 ARE YOU TAKING ACTION?

Life is moving pretty fast. If there is something that is calling you, NOW is the time to go after it.

Yes, I know it can feel scary to leave the comfortable status quo behind, but you didn’t come here to just ‘tiptoe safely to death’ as a mentor of mine used to put it.

You have more to give, and a much bigger mission to fulfill.

That’s why you are hearing the call.

It’s time to heed it and go after that passion project because if you’re not doing it, somebody else sure will.

Trust me, you don’t want to end up like my friend who gave up on her dream and settled for something way less than what is meant for her.

Reviving a Stagnant Million-Dollar Business: A Case Study on Boosting Sales, Cutting Costs, and Seizing Opportunities https://www.simonaksoll.com/reviving-a-stagnant-million-dollar-business-a-case-study-on-boosting-sales-cutting-costs-and-seizing-opportunities/ Wed, 21 Jun 2023 03:53:02 +0000 https://www.simonaksoll.com/?p=4906

A million-dollar-plus brick-and-mortar business that had been successful in the past through word of mouth, repeat customers, and referrals was experiencing stagnant sales.

They hired my consulting services to develop a marketing strategy that would help them increase their revenue.

During an in-depth coaching conversation, we discovered that the owner had delegated the management of the business to a second in command and was not physically present as a leader on a daily basis.

THE CHALLENGE

This had a negative impact on staff morale, resulting in a lack of motivation among salespeople. We realized that in addition to developing a marketing strategy, we needed to address this underlying issue.

To tackle this, the owner took over the leadership of the company and held daily morning meetings to incentivize the team. This approach motivated the salespeople, and they began to put forth new innovative ideas to generate more sales.

THE OPPORTUNITIES

We then discovered a recurring revenue stream worth $50,000 year on year that the owner had overlooked.

And we identified an opportunity to renegotiate the business’ lease agreement, which resulted in a $78,000 yearly reduction in overhead costs. The new agreement was locked in for five years.

THE RESULT

The outcome of our six-month engagement was that the business saw a total of $640,000 in additional net profits going back to their bottom line over the course of five years by cutting operations costs and taking advantage of a new revenue stream.

With a team of highly motivated salespeople, sales increased significantly, and the marketing strategy brought new customers into the business.

This case study shows how addressing the underlying issues, in addition to developing a marketing strategy, can lead to significantly improved growth.

By pairing a solid marketing strategy with mindset tools based in neuroscience, I was able to help the owner recognize and take advantage of opportunities as soon as they presented themselves, even when they initially felt resistant to making the changes.

Supercharge Your Small Business Marketing: Top 5 Benefits of Hiring a Fractional CMO https://www.simonaksoll.com/supercharge-your-small-business-marketing-top-5-benefits-of-hiring-a-fractional-cmo/ Sun, 21 May 2023 04:23:03 +0000 https://www.simonaksoll.com/?p=4920

Every week I talk to people who are ready to step into their next level of growth. Many of them are small business owners, who are wearing a lot of hats.

They are the CEO, the accountant, and the marketing manager all rolled into one while providing personalized services and being the salesperson for their product in the company. They are spreading themselves too thin and this takes a toll on their personal wellbeing as well as the growth of their business.

When it comes to marketing, it’s essential to have a strategic approach to stay ahead of the competition. This is where a fractional CMO can be a game-changer.

A fractional CMO is a Chief Marketing Officer who works with your company on a part-time or project basis. Here are the top 5 reasons why small businesses benefit from working with a fractional CMO:

  1. Cost-Effective Solution: Hiring a full-time CMO can be expensive and may not fit into your budget. A fractional CMO, on the other hand, is a cost-effective solution. You can get expert advice and guidance without the added overhead costs.
  2. Strategic Planning: A fractional CMO can help you develop a marketing plan that aligns with your business goals. They can assess your current marketing efforts, identify gaps, and develop a comprehensive plan to achieve your objectives.
  3. Execution of Marketing Plan: Once you have a marketing plan in place, a fractional CMO can help you execute it. They can oversee the implementation of marketing tactics and ensure that they are achieving the desired results.
  4. Stay Up-to-Date with Marketing Trends: Marketing is constantly evolving, and it can be challenging for small business owners to stay up-to-date with the latest trends. A fractional CMO can provide insights into new marketing techniques and technologies to help your business stay ahead of the curve.
  5. Flexibility: As a small business owner, you may not require a full-time CMO. A fractional CMO can work with you on a part-time or project basis, giving you the flexibility to scale up or down as needed.

If you’re looking for expert marketing advice and guidance to take your small business to the next level, consider working with a fractional CMO.

Unlock the Full Potential of Your Small Business: How These 2 Roles Can Help You Achieve Your Vision https://www.simonaksoll.com/unlock-the-full-potential-of-your-small-business-how-these-2-roles-can-help-you-achieve-your-vision/ Sun, 21 May 2023 04:15:30 +0000 https://www.simonaksoll.com/?p=4916

Small businesses have been facing both unique challenges and amazing opportunities in recent years. Knowing how to invest in the right team members has become paramount to success.

As a small business owner, you have a big-picture vision for your company, but sometimes, it can be hard to turn that vision into reality on your own.

That’s where consultants come in.

By contracting consultants, you gain access to the expertise and resources you need to grow your business without the added overhead of hiring full-time employees.

Consultants can provide a range of services, from developing comprehensive marketing plans to creating and executing strategies for growth.

Plus, with the ability to work remotely, businesses now can contract the best talent no matter where they’re located. Investing in the right consultants can be a game-changer for your small business’s growth.

These 2 roles in particular can make all the difference:

THE INTEGRATOR

An integrator is a key player in the success of a small business. They are the person responsible for turning your vision into a reality.

This is someone who can take your vision and turn it into an actionable plan. They will work with you to create a roadmap and then execute that plan by coordinating with your team and making sure everyone is on the same page. They are responsible for everything running smoothly and that your business is achieving its goals. Consider them your second in command.

One of the main tasks of an integrator is to ensure that everyone is accountable for their work. They will see to deadlines being met, projects being completed on time, and that everyone is pulling their weight.

They will also work with your team to identify any potential roadblocks or issues and help find solutions to keep everything on track.

In addition, an integrator can help streamline your operations and make your business more efficient.

They can identify areas where you may be wasting time or resources and come up with solutions to optimize your processes. This can lead to cost savings and increased productivity.

Overall, an integrator is a critical component of any small business team. They bring structure, accountability, and efficiency to your business, allowing you to focus on what you do best.

THE FRACTIONAL CMO (Chief Marketing Officer)

Hiring a fractional CMO can be a BIG game-changer for your business. This is a cost-effective way for small businesses to gain access to high-level marketing strategy and execution without having to invest in the overhead of bringing on a full-time member in an executive position.

A consultant in this role can help you develop a comprehensive marketing plan, oversee its execution, and analyze the results to ensure that your marketing is working effectively.
